Herbert and Marguerite Whitaker founded Mechanical Service Company, Inc. in 1955. Herbert operated the company from a small building attached to their garage while Marguerite kept the books, answered the phone, and took care of the three children.

By the early sixties, Herbert moved the family business into a new office in the Ingleside section of Norfolk, Virginia. in 1967, Jack Whitaker, Herbert's second child, began working full-time after many years of part-time work for the company. During the 1970's, Mechanical Service Company became very involved with the expanding custom home market, installing comfort systems in many of the area's finest homes. By 1986, during a period of tremendous growth, there were fifty employees and a fleet of twenty-three vehicles.

During the 1990's and into the new century, our focus has been on re-structuring, extensive training for co-workers, professional management approaches, and greater community involvement. Mechanical Service Co., Inc. is recognized as one of the industry leaders in the Hampton Roads area for providing total indoor comfort and for supporting our industry through involvement in local and national organizations. Mechanical Service Company, through the years, has shown an unparalleled commitment to our co-workers, our customers, and our community.
